When I thought of naming the TV Series, most people told me that the name “Planting Seeds” was not strong enough. They said that the series, needed to be more intimidating – something like “Heat”, where budding entrepreneurs would step into the ring of fire to be judged and deemed worthy or unworthy of investment.
In true entrepreneurial fashion, I ignored what everyone else had to say and went with my own vision- and thus, Planting Seeds was born. This unique gift of stubbornness, I must say, is both a blessing and a curse for entrepreneurs, and any of you entrepreneurs reading this, will know exactly what I mean.
We are stubborn people, who relentlessly fight for our dreams, sometimes we win, and sometimes we lose. But we play the game nevertheless and we would not be happy any other way.
For me, a seed represented the beginning of something great, something with unlimited potential. Most people think that it is the next big idea, or it is the first round of financing or the first taste of profits. But it is not, finding your seed is about finding yourself and having the confidence to push forward, and believe in your vision, even when you stand alone.
Today, we are Planting Seeds – not just by helping budding entrepreneurs with business plans, or by giving them exposure or by connecting them with investors, that is all well and good, but those are just branches of the benefits growing from our core.
What we are doing is changing the way people in the Caribbean look at themselves. When they wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, we want them to see strength and confidence.
Finding your seed is about finding yourself, because that is where entrepreneurship truly begins, with you.
