There are an estimated 7.5 billion people in the world, and all need one thing – clothing!
The Caribbean fashion industry remains one of the heavily underfunded sectors in the region. It is particularly unfortunate for Trinidad and Tobago; a cosmopolitan country with such a unique culture. With a vision to accelerate the development of the local fashion industry, Planting Seeds has teamed up with Micles, Trinidad and Tobago’s leading clothing retail outlet, to create a platform for designers to display their talent and access necessary guidance and funding from our enthusiastic investor panel.
Micles’ story is rooted in entrepreneurship and thus we have collaborated with them to host a fashion episode on Planting Seeds. Local designers can pitch their ideas in exchange for capital funding and supply chain assistance from the management team at Micles. The successful designers were also given the opportunity to design and showcase a small collection at a Micles branch.
While all contestants had inspiring designs, it was designer Lisa See Tai who emerged the 2017 winner of the Planting Seeds & Micles Fashion Challenge Episode. See Tai designs a women’s clothing line inspired by the tropical flora and cultural influences of Trinidad and Tobago. Her inspirations enable her to create modern, youthful silhouettes that are distinctively Caribbean but with an international appeal. Her goals for her business are to increase production, strengthen her brand, and implement marketing strategies to reach an international market.
