Behind the investor : Gerald Aboud
28th March 2017

Gerald Aboud always knew he wanted to be independent and be able to take care of himself, which drove him to want to succeed as an entrepreneur. Together with his father, George Aboud, he started Starlite Pharmacy in 1996. They recognized the need for a dynamic pharmacy that could act as a one-stop shop for beauty, health, and wellness, bringing a new level of convenience to consumers.

With two CXC passes under his belt and experience from his family’s business, Aboutique fabric store, this Fatima alumnus had a steep learning curve ahead of him. Through hard work and dedication, Aboud’s perseverance paid off. He has gone on to become the sole owner of Starlite Pharmacy and continues to grow the business from strength to strength. The pharmacy consistently adds new lines and products, and has expanded from its original Diego Martin location to include a groundbreaking store in Maraval and a new branch opening in San Fernando in early 2017.

Believing that it is an obligation for successful individuals to give back to the community in meaningful and sustainable ways, Aboud recognizes the powerful imprint that businesses can have on the social landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. Spotting this modern trend towards ethical business practice comes naturally to Aboud, who has a keen eye for identifying innovative products in the international marketplace. In this way, Starlite Pharmacy is a market leader, carving out niches and introducing the latest, hottest products to their customers.

Having learned key business lessons along the way, Aboud is ideally positioned to offer guidance to budding entrepreneurs. He has a first-hand understanding of the difficulties facing startups, from the struggle to get capital to the issues involved with finding qualified and skilled workers. Likewise, he can assist entrepreneurs who are at the phase of scaling a small, successful entity due to his personal experience with growing a new enterprise through the business lifecycle.

Understanding the importance of partnership working and developing human resources within a company, Aboud brings his teamwork-oriented approach to the Planting Seeds family. As the co-founder of the Starlite for Humanity foundation, his awareness of socially responsible business practices also makes him an asset to the team.

Gerald Aboud made an Offer on the show which is as follows:

Connect 360, an employment app created by Ronald Brizan.
Deal: TT$250,000 in exchange for a 51% equity stake of the Company.
